Job Summary:This is an entry-level position in crime analysis. Duties include entering data, identifying and reportingon trends, patterns and/or new developments related to crime in Meridian for law enforcementactivities and crime prevention purposes. Assistance is available from a Senior and/or Lead CrimeAnalyst. Performs related work as required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Collects analyzes, evaluates and enters data related to crime in Meridian; Identifies crime patternsand/or trends and prepares related reports;Performs inferential statistical analysis of relevant historical and current crime data;Confers with departmental personnel to report on findings and trends;Create and run queries using essential tools such as Data Analysis and Mapping (DAM) in New WorldRMS or Web Crash Analysis Reporting System to extract data from various databases or departmentrecords management systems, in order to present data and statistics. Process Adjudications and declinesto update RMS and ITS; Conducts criminal background research for investigators gathering, analyzing, and evaluating data for pertinent use from criminal databases, jail or court systems, various social media websites, etc. Researches Leads-on-Line for the stolen property by querying databases connecting a property to victims and/or suspects; Creates, updates, and organizes information for publication that includes bulletins for officer safety, special events, informational notices with various graphic designs, etc.;Prepares, maintains and updates reports into the appropriate format for various users;Reviews crime reports, related criminal data, and information on a daily basis to assist in identifying orconsolidating information for later scrutiny and/or use in crime statistics, bulletins, and articles;Assists in the development of a database operation for the collection and analysis of crime data; Checks for accuracy, timeliness, and security of entries; Maintains dissemination logs for reports, maintenance, and updates; Any other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.
Job Specifications:High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years working in a law enforcement setting, preferably incrime analysis, or educational emphasis in statistical analysis, plus education or practical experience indata collection and computer operations;Familiarity with the dynamics of the criminal justice system and law enforcement in particular;Familiarity with the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), the Uniform Crime ReportingSystem (UCR), the National Crime Victimization Survey, and the Idaho Crime Victimization Survey.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Demonstrated and documented the knowledge of computer operations related to word processing,spreadsheets, (SSPS) statistical program applications, analysis applications, SQL Server ManagementStudio (SSMS); web pages, and computer-based presentations, Microsoft Office Programs i.e. Word,Excel, Visio, or, Access, PowerPoint;Must obtain Basic and Advanced ILETS/NCIC certifications;Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing;Ability to produce reports and document data in a demonstrative manner within mixed applications orin varied media in an understandable way for multiple customers, internal and external;Ability to demonstrate motivation, initiative, dependability, and cooperative interpersonal skills;Ability to work as a team player;Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks;Ability to have strong attention to detail to check for coding on crime reports and correct errors tomaintain the reliability of statistics.Licensing/Certification:In this position, each person will be working towards a California Department of Justice Crime andIntelligence Analyst Certification, International Association of Crime Analysts Certification orInternational Association of Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certification.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:Work is performed primarily in an office environment with a moderate noise level. The employee in thisclass is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weatherconditions but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outsideenvironmental conditions;Constantly requires sitting at a desk for long hours up to ten (10) hours and the ability to lift up to ten(10) pounds; Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicateeffectively; Constantly requires the repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, and/ or fingers;Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee tofunction in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
Travel Requirements:Local travel is occasionally required;Some in-state and out of state travel may be required for training.
