Job Title: Building Maintenance WorkerDepartment: Public WorksReports To: Capital Projects ManagerOpen Date: November 22, 2019Close Date: Open Until FilledHiring Salary: $17.27 - $22.07 per hour, DOESalary Range: $17.27 - $25.90 per hour, DOEJob Summary:Under moderate supervision, the Building Maintenance Worker will conduct basic routine buildingmaintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work in City buildings and facilities. This will involve skilled andsemi-skilled duties in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry and basic remodeling such asinstalling cabinets, shelving, doors, and locks, as well as painting, sheetrocking, caulking and sealing.Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, handling non-scheduled, and emergencymaintenance and repair when required to support operations, reacting to unplanned maintenance needsof City building systems, and responding to service requests from building occupants. The individual willassist with contract work within the facilities when necessary and perform other duties as assigned.Excellent work ethic, initiative, and work organization are essential to successful performance.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Perform a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled building trades work;Install, maintain, and repair basic mechanical and electrical, heating and ventilation systems;Maintain and repair buildings and offices; Provide remodeling services requiring basic carpentry skills;Construct and repair office furniture, cabinets, shelving, partitions and fixtures; Install/attach cabinets andshelves to walls;Repair, replace, and install plumbing fixtures and appliances; Install and repair lavatory facilities anddrinking fountains;Prepare, patch, and paint buildings and equipment;Move furniture as requested by building occupants;Conduct life/safety inspections on various equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, safety lighting, and signage)at City facilities;Facilitate testing and repair of electrical circuitry on a "like-for-like" basis;Replace, repair, or install windows, flooring, doors, locks, and openers;Safely operate a variety of equipment, machinery, hand and power tools, and trucks;Maintain a variety of records including inspection forms, records of repairs and purchases;Perform basic inventory control and logistical support for cleaning supplies at City facilities;
Keep supervisor fully and accurately informed concerning work issues or problems;Learn applicable provisions of building, electrical, and plumbing codes;Recognize and locate conditions which require maintenance, construction, and repair jobs;Estimate time and materials needed to perform maintenance, construction, and repair jobs;Must work to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines;Must demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors and colleagues at all times;Demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel;Ability to coordinate a maintenance schedule based on priority ranking;Ability to serve on cross-functional teams as necessary;Perform general janitorial tasks when necessary;Perform basic oversight to contractors/vendors as required.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:Maintain work areas, tools, vehicles, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition;Work on-call or overtime as needed;Perform other duties as assigned or needed.Job Specifications:High school graduate with excellent math and communication skills;Knowledge of construction trade work including carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating,ventilation and air conditioning; construction and maintenance safety procedures; building andmechanical practices;Knowledge of a variety of labor and maintenance tasks such as standard safety practices, equipmentthe operation, and building maintenance;A minimum of two years' experience in building maintenance, facilities repair, service, or related workrequired;Basic experience with painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades;Working knowledge of standard tools, methods, practices, and materials involved in at least one of thebuilding trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical;Knowledge of safe work practices;Understanding of methods and practices used in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment;
Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, and technical manuals;Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate and work effectively with others;Ability to handle customer concerns or complaints skillfully and respectfully;Effective and efficient problem-solving and decision-making skills;Familiarity with most fastening and anchoring hardware and devices;Or a combination of education, experience, or training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilitiesnecessary to perform the duties of this position.Licensing or Certifications:Must hold a valid Idaho Driver's license.Work Environment & Physical Demands:Indoor, outdoor, weather exposure, shop environments, multiple buildings;Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs;Standing and walking for extended periods of time;Climbing and bending at the waist, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and working at heights; Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment;Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicateeffectively;Good vision and ability to identify all colors;Good balance and coordination on ladders and lifts.HazardsExposure to fumes from equipment operation;May work on a variety of ladders;May work around or in areas of high voltage;Work in cramped or restrictive work chambers;Workaround and with equipment having moving parts;Exposure to dust, dirt, oil/grease, and gases.Travel Requirements:
Local travel is required.
