Intermountain Pet Hospital is looking for veterinary technicians who want to make a difference in their community. We are an established 10 DVM multi-location practice located in a fast growing suburb of Boise, Idaho. We are currently looking for the right person/s to join our team and help us expand our services. We have a full time job opening for a veterinary technician at our 7 doctor main hospital. EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) desirable but not required. Previous On-The-Job Training desirable when not a CVT. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum two years experience as veterinary technician or assistant, preferred. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 18 years old. Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature. Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members. Has excellent client communication skills. Physical Effort : Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position. Working conditions : Will be exposed to anesthetic gases. Will be exposed to radiation from x-ray machines. May be exposed to Chemotherapy drugs and Chemotherapy patients. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. The range for the position is $16.50 per hour to $21.50 per hour. Benefits are outlined in the employee manual and are separate from the hourly wage. Can provide compassionate care to patients and clients. Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks. Can follow IPH Code of Conduct. Can legibly keep accurate medical records in accordance hospital policy. Can prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas. Can perform physical assessments; record observations legibly in files or computer. Can effectively restrain pets even when large or difficult. Understands all common vaccinations and vaccination protocols and can explain to clients. Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility, does not hesitate to clean or organize as part of a normal job duty. Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees. Gives SQ, IM and IV injections. Performs blood collection, cystocentesis, nail trims, anal gland expressions, vaccines, chronic medication injections and minor ear cleaning procedures. Can handle client's medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate. Can prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies. Can check clients out, updating reminders and patient record as needed. Can explain necessary followup and homecare instructions. Understands usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients. Can maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system. Can assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; intubate; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids. Can properly follow sterility guidelines; before, during and after a procedure. Can properly care for all surgical materials; keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery. Can perform emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage. Can perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records. Can effectively position for and take radiographs. Can perform electrocardiograms. Can place IV catheters and properly care for them. Understands the use and care of IV pumps as well. Knows common disease states and can alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients. Can prepare a patient and the machine for an ultrasound procedure. Can admit patients following hospital policy and doctors written orders. Can discharge patients based on the veterinarian's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state. Can perform all laboratory procedures, in house and sent out. Maintain equipment in Treatment area, create and update manuals, performing any needed maintenance and repairs. Provide mentoring and training for Patient Care and tech assistant staff. This should be in line with the practice vision and teaching objectives of the hospital administer and management team. Your job is to implement the teaching of the hospital administrator and make the topics relevant to your team's daily work. Ensure that your team has learned the teaching objectives and have systems in place to monitor progress and adherence to new and established protocols. Handle staff scheduling for Patient Care staff and tech assistant staff promoting the best use of staff during peak hours as well as compensating the schedule for slower times. Monitor overtime hours for Patient Care and tech assistant staff. Ensure that all staff takes a 30-minute lunch and are clocking in and out according to scheduled shift. Approve requests for absences for your team in a timely manor. Conduct monthly team meetings, following the team meeting format and providing a meeting agenda and meeting notes to the Hospital Administrator. Handle fair and consistent discipline to employees as necessary as well as related documentation. Prepare and deliver semi-annual employee performance reviews for the Patient Care and tech assistant team. Monitor staff turnover/attrition rates with your team. Monitor projects assigned to your team to ensure timely completion. Address all issues related to daily operational employee management. Confer with the hospital administrator when necessary. Understand and practice all employment laws relevant as required by state/federal law. Maintain OSHA and AHAA standards, perform regular safety training with your team. Maintain written reprimands and grievances in the personnel files. Can perform human CPR as needed. Oversee flow of doctor and hospital schedule, ensuring that all procedures and treatments are completed as ordered. Can assist staff with workman's comp claims, ensuring that paperwork is completed, faxed and turned in correctly. Assist with client complaints and patient care courtesy discount decisions. Assist with holding staff accountable for IPH Code of Conduct and following protocols stated in the employee handbook. Assist safety coordinator with staff safety during emergency situations, following procedures for evacuation. Attend and participate in all required management and staff meetings. Attend 10 to 15 hours of external continuing education each year.
