West Ada School District is seeking an educational leader for the
newly restructured Chief Academic Officer of Teaching and Learning
position! As a key memeber of the Superintendent's excutive Team,
this critical role will set the strategic vision for instructional
excellence across Idaho's largest school district.
Following a recent reorganization of the Academics Department, The
Chief Academic Officer role has been divided into two distinct
positions to sharpen our focus on Student Success and Teaching and
Learning. This newly focused CAO position offers an incredible
opportunity to shape the future of curriculum, instruction,
assessment, and professional development across the district.

Purpose
The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of Teaching and Learning works
collaboratively to set the strategic vision and direction for the
instructional framework and pedagogical approach for WASD academic
programs. This role focuses on advancing the district's vision for
academic excellence, instructional innovation, and equitable
learning opportunities across all schools. The CAO provides
strategic oversight of curriculum, instruction, assessment,
professional development, and federally funded education programs.
This role is critical in ensuring that every WASD student graduates
prepared for college and career.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from the Superintendent and works
collaboratively with the executive team, other district and school
leaders, staff, families and community stakeholders.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned management, supervisory,
and administrative support staff.Essential DutiesDuties may
include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a
comprehensive Teaching and Learning framework aligned to the
District's Strategic Plan and Idaho State Standards.
- Drive initiatives that promote instructional excellence,
academic innovation, continuous improvement, and student
success.
- Monitor and respond to emerging educational trends, research,
and legislative mandates affecting curriculum and
instruction.Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Oversight
- Provide leadership in designing, implementing, and continuously
improving high-quality, standards-based curricula for all grade
levels and content areas.
- Ensure alignment of curriculum, instructional, and assessment
systems across the district.
- Support the implementation of effective instructional
strategies.
- Lead the development and implementation of system-wide
assessments and ensure the use of assessment data to inform
instruction and improve student outcomes.Professional Learning and
Capacity Building
- Design and oversee a comprehensive professional development
program for administrators, teachers, and support staff that
supports district priorities and best practices in teaching and
learning.
- Mentor and support school and district instructional leaders to
build leadership capacity and foster instructional excellence at
all levels.Oversight of Federal and State Programs
- Lead and manage all aspects of federal and state-funded
educational programs, including but not limited to Title I, Title
II, Title III, Title IV, Migrant Education, and Multilingual
Learner programs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and
reporting requirements related to federal program funding.
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate budgets and plans for federal
programs, ensuring that resources are allocated strategically to
advance instructional priorities and equity goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design
federally funded programs that effectively address the needs of
historically underserved students.Data-Driven Decision Making and
Accountability
- Analyze districtwide student achievement and program data to
identify trends, monitor progress, and develop responsive action
plans.
- Establish performance metrics and implement accountability
systems to ensure that instructional initiatives achieve intended
outcomes.Access
- Promote educational access by ensuring that all students,
regardless of background, have access to rigorous curriculum,
effective instruction, and high-quality support
systems.Collaboration and Communication
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with principals,
teachers, district office departments, families, and community
partners.
- Serve as a key member of the Superintendent's executive team,
providing leadership, counsel, and recommendations on matters
related to improved teaching and learning.
- Communicate effectively with the Board of Trustees, community
groups, and the public regarding academic programs, initiatives,
and outcomes.Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise the Executive Directors, Directors, and
Coordinators within the Teaching and Learning Division, including
but not limited to Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Federal
Programs staff.
- Provide leadership for District-wide administrators, building
administrators, content coordinators, and consultants.
- Evaluate assigned personnel according to District policies and
procedures.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of:
- Principles of research-based instructional practices,
curriculum development, assessment strategies, and educational
leadership theories.
- Federal and state education programs, laws, regulations, and
grant management.
- Principles and practices of program development, planning, goal
setting, oversight, project management, implementation, contract
administration, policy development, and internal controls.
- Organizational and management practices as applied to the
analysis and evaluation of programs.
- Principles and practices of leadership, motivation, team
building and conflict resolution.
- Principles and practices of organization, administration, and
personnel management.Ability to:
- Plan, direct, and manage large-scale projects, budgets, and
teams with a high level of accountability and effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain effective and exceptional working
relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
- collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and
effective manner and ensure commitment to cultural competency,

technology tools.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in

- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work
schedule to conduct job responsibilities.Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of experience and training would provide
the required knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Equivalent to a Master's Degree in Education, Educational
Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
- Valid Idaho Administrative Certificate.
- Ten years of progressively responsible experience in K-12
education, including five years of administrative leadership roles
at the building and district level.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum and instruction
leadership, federal program administration, and/or strategic
planning.
- Proven success in improving student achievement and promoting
equity in diverse educational settings.
- Must have valid Idaho driver's license and provide own
transportation for job related activities; job-related travel
during the day will be reimbursed at the approved state mileage
reimbursement rate.Essential Physical Abilities
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without
reasonable accommodation, to understand verbal instructions and
communicate effectively in person and by phone.

- 230-day working calendar; exempt position.
