Job Description:

ESI's Project Field Engineer is needed for our Meridian, ID location.
Our Project Engineer provides procedural and operational support to the project management team during project planning, bidding, and construction. They are a vital partner who assists and supports all other team members, focusing efforts on augmenting and supporting the Project Manager. Whether in the field or in the office, the Project Engineer understands the global needs of the project and is adept at prioritizing and providing tactical support to the team. Project Engineers strengthen the team and increase their capacity to effectively manage work.
Specific Experience

  • 4-7 years experience as a Project Engineer working with: Schools, Office, High-rise/mid-rise, Industrial, Food processing, Tenant improvement, or Medical office buildings.
  • Commercial PE Experience required -Qualifications
    • Bachelors of Science in Construction Management or Engineering.
    • Prior experience as Project Engineer Level 1 (or similar position at previous employer).
    • Confidence in representing ESI as an ambassador to clientele, design teams, city officials, and subcontractors.
    • Record of effectively performing tasks delegated by the Project Manager or Superintendent; represent the PM or Superintendent as delegated.
    • Proficient in scheduling and tracking software tools such as MS Project or P6; able to create a project schedule using MS Project.
    • Thorough knowledge of accounting and cost control procedures; familiarity with change management in ViewPoint software.
    • Strong management and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. -
    • General knowledge of building construction, materials, means and methods, scheduling, project accounting and cost control procedures, general contract structure, general conditions, subcontract documents, construction drawings and specifications.
    • Can effectively search, navigate, and interpret contract documents (plans, specifications, RFI's, ASI's, CCD's, etc.).
    • Demonstrates leadership, integrity, perseverance, reliability, respect, self-discipline, dedication, and dependability.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs; specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
    • Possesses organizational skills and is detail-oriented.
    • Demonstrates personal motivation, initiative, and potential for growth.
    • Can work independently with minimal supervision and limited direction.
    • Shows an aptitude for management and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
    • Prior experience as Project Engineer Level 1 (or similar position at previous employer).

    • General knowledge of LEED / Green Building principles and requirements.
    • Current safety certifications, including OSHA 30-hour.
    • SWPPP certification (desired).
      Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      • Provide operational and procedural support to project management team.
      • Assist with bid activities including bid review, procuring adequate scope coverage, and estimating.
      • Manage project documentation including taking and distributing meeting minutes, creating and tracking material/equipment delivery logs, managing the requests for information (RFI) process (review, drafting, distribution, tracking, and pricing), and submittals (log creation, tracking, distribution, and pricing).
      • Maintain and update construction drawings with changes, as-builts, RFI responses, and other official project correspondence. Notify subcontractors and suppliers of changes to project documents.
      • Assist with on-site trade management and coordination.
      • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with project team to develop positive and professional working relationship with owners, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and city officials.
      • Review changes to contract documents and assist the Project Manager and Project Administrator (PA) in submitting requests for quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
      • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent to develop project schedules.
      • Manage the closeout documentation effort, including creating a closeout log, tracking and collecting documentation from subcontractors, and creating O&M manuals and final closeout binders for clients.
      • Represent project management team as directed, on site and in meetings.
      • Perform jobsite safety walks and enforce safety and security practices in accordance with ESI's safety program. -Report any and all jobsite accidents immediately in accordance with ESI policy. Implement safety measures, such as barriers or warning systems, to prevent injury.
      • Perform spot-check QA/QC inspections for any project referencing construction documents.
      • Develop and review scope exhibits during procurement process ensuring that all scopes are accounted for; assist in issuing, tracking, and reviewing subcontracts and markups.
      • Review changes to contract documents, procure pricing from subcontractors, review pricing for accuracy (identifying overages and omissions), and compile costs and backup for the Project Manager's review.
      • Analyze project schedule status, update short interval schedules, create scope-specific schedules (micro-schedules), and provide input on the master schedule.
      • Investigate and facilitate new training and growth opportunities for Project Engineers Level 1, other Project Engineers Level 2, and Interns, providing mentorship when directed.
